About Gilbert Tan
Gilbert was an Architectural Draftsman for Hitachi designing lifts and escalators before a spinal cord injury in 1983 made him a quadriplegic. But, it has never stopped Gilbert from his passions. Painting with his mouth, Gilbert’s paintings have been displayed in Japan, Vienna, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne, Lisbon and Taiwan, with collections in the Smithsonian Institute.
His other passion is music. Besides songwriting and composing, he produced 4 albums of own compositions, with 5 more albums in collaboration with the Singapore Wataboshi Movement. As an active member of handicap associations, Gilbert actively participates in community work and contributes time to visit and counsel the needy in befriender schemes.
