Sorry to burst your bubble but there is no secret ingredient or miracle cream that can make your scars totally disappear. Having visible acne scars, especially those brown and red ones, can be embarrassing and affect your social life.
You may have tried ways and means to reduce the appearance of acne scars but nothing seemed to work. Don’t be discouraged, though. There are topical creams and treatments that can bring the discoloration down. We speak to Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director and co-founder of Radium Medical Aesthetics to tell us how to achieve that smooth prepubertal skin.
Skin Care Tips and Home Remedies
Don’t pick or squeeze your acne. When you get acne, there is inflammation going on. By picking or squeezing your acne, you are making it worse by injuring your skin. It may also lead to bacteria in the pimple going deeper into the skin, resulting in further damage.
We all already know that UV ray is bad for the skin. Don’t exposure your scars to sun. Even if you don’t do anything to your scars, just by protecting them from the harmful UV rays, your body is capable of taking care of the scars and lighten over time. If you need to go out, always be diligent in applying sufficient sunscreen to guard your skin and cover yourself with a hat or an umbrella.
There isn’t really a product that is proven to reduce scars. However, if you are looking for a product that helps to even out the skin tone, make sure you go for those that contain vitamin C. Vitamin C has been proven to combat discoloration of the skin.
Treatments for Acne Scars
As we age, acne scars may become more noticeable because our skin loses collagen. Not all scars respond well to one kind of treatment. The key is to select the most effective treatment for each scar type. For example, if a patient has deep scars, it is more beneficial to get a dermal filler treatment to fill the trough and add volume to the skin. After that, the doctor may perform laser treatments to smoothen the skin.
Other than dermal filler treatment, another targeted deep scar treatment is to use an advanced Korean technology called AGNES. AGNES Acne Treatment uses a special micro-insulated needle to introduce small amounts of radiofrequency waves into the skin to induce collagen production. Over time, collagen and elastin fibers are stimulated in the scars to create skin tissue for a more even skin texture.
When visible but mild acne scars are uniformly distributed on the cheeks and jawline, doctors often use fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment to induce damage to the superficial layers of the skin to allow new skin and collagen to grow.
At times, people may opt for a treatment that has less downtime than the skin resurfacing laser treatment and AGNES acne treatment. A chemical peel is a great alternative to the eCO2 laser treatment. It essentially removes the top layer of dead skin using a strong chemical solution. Repeating this a few times will achieve a smoother, younger-looking skin.
To achieve the best outcome, always visit a doctor so that he can examine your skin and recommend some effective acne treatment plan for you. Seek treatment early before the scars become permanent and harder to treat.
Radium Medical Aesthetics offers a range of acne scar treatment such as eCO2 skin resurfacing, dermal fillers, TCA Cross Scar Therapy, Subcision Acne Scar Treatment, Chemical Peel, and AGNES Scar Elimination.
